Just Another Weekend in Apalachicola

What started out as just another weekend in Apalachicola became quite exciting on Sunday. As some of you know, Nate's parents live on the Apalachicola River in Apalachicola, FL. Their home/land neighbors a fishing lodge called Bay City Lodge. Jimmy, the owner of the lodge, had seen a gator lurking around the fish cleaning house for a few months and decided to call in trappers to come and catch it (trappers make killing an alligator legal). So, Sunday the boys were swimming in Chuck's new pond when Jimmy came over to tell us that the gator had been caught RIGHT BEHIND THE MARKS' HOME!!! Apparently, the gator had been living behind their home for quite some time and would have to swim by their house to get to the lodge for dinner. This is the same area where we launch boats, the dogs swim, and two little boys have been known to get in as well. The trappers estimated that the gator was 13ft long, but it was missing 14 of it's scoots on it's tail, which would have made him around 14ft long. Not the record for that area, but close. He was ENORMOUS! Luckily, that is one less gator in the river. Not to worry...Ryder will NEVER get back in that water if I can help it!!!

Crazy! We have vacationed in St. George for the last 2 years (not far from your ILs) and the people there say it's not rare to see sharks near the beach. We witnessed one little one up on the beach our first year... it was a bit scary, but nothing compared to your story!!
