School Days

Well, after much hesitation, I decided that this fall was the right time for Ryder to start "school." He is going to a Mother's Morning Out program at a local Baptist church, and attends from 9am-1pm on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Some of you might remember that I registered him for this same program last year, but chickened out at the last minute. I just wasn't ready to let go of my baby yet. However, that has all changed as I have realized that my toddler requires a LOT more energy, attention, activities, entertainment, etc. than this one-woman show can offer. He started his first day today, and I must admit that I was pretty excited, especially after the rough day that we had yesterday. He woke up kind of early this morning...of course I took that opportunity to snap a few pics. Ryder was just so cute in sleepy mode! We had a great morning together, which made me a little sad to be shipping him out. I dressed him in his first day of school outfit: an Anavini red and white gingham smocked jonjon with little apples and a bright green worm. You all know that I wouldn't let an opportunity pass to put the boy in a jonjon! Nate and I tried to get him to wear his new backpack, but he wasn't having it. He also wouldn't cooperate with picture time at the house...typical boy!

I decided to take him to school by myself so that he would get used to our routine right off the bat. He was a little anxious acting when we got out at school, but loosened up when he got to play in the front lawn of the church. When we got into his classroom, he jumped right out of my arms and started playing. Yea...no tears! I stayed for a few minutes and then stood outside in the hall for a few minutes. After peaking in on him and seeing that he was not missing me at all, I left and began wondering what I was going to do with myself. I haven't been by myself in 19 months! I ended up going to a class at the Y and then driving 45 minutes to Bainbridge, GA to do a little shopping.

I picked him up at school at 1pm and got a great report from his teacher. Of course, he ate well and played very nicely. I was so proud of him! He has been in a fabulous mood all day and I think that he is ready for many more days at school.

You so so brave. I know that Micah would LOVE to have gone to school this year. We looked into it, priced it, and got some applications, and then decided to wait until next fall. Although I would LOVE to have some Miriam time.....maybe next year :) I'm digging the backpack too....where's it from Lands End?

how sweet are those sleepy pics?! Jenny began putting Ian in Mommy's Day classes the August before he turned two for just one day a week. The next year he went all three days and has loved every minute of it. This year she is a teacher and takes Noah, 21 months, as well. Ian, because of his birthday, won't begin Kindergarten until next year and she's planning to homeschool. Like you, she wasn't sure that first year, hence the one day a week :) Mommies need a break, too, and the little ones have such fun interacting with 'new' friends :) Keep us updated!
