Oh Canada: Day 1

On our first day in Canada, we went on a day-long tour of Banff and Lake Louise. Our first stop was at a place called Johnston Canyon, and it was freezing cold to us southerners. We got to hike around the base of a mountain and see some pretty cool rapids. We then crossed over the Continental Divide and went to Takakkaw Falls, which is a waterfall that is formed from melting glaciers. Needless to say, the water was FREEZING! The falls were such an amazing sight!

After leaving the falls, we went to have lunch at this amazing place called Emerald Lake. The water there is so beautiful! It is a teal blue due to the suspension of "rock flour." Rock flour is the dust that is formed as the glaciers get impacted and grind down the surface of the mountain. The dust then gets into the water and flows into the lakes. The rock flour absorbs all colors of the spectrum except green and blue, which it reflects and produces this amazing color. So...there is your science lesson for the day!

From Emerald Lake we traveled to Lake Louise, which is a popular tourist sight for the Canadian Rockies. Once again, the water was absolutely freezing and beautifully blue. Seeing these amazing sights make you realize how awesome our Creator truly is!
